Where is the best place in S America to go in winter?

Postby Itsjustme on Sun Dec 21, 2008 9:45 am

I have to get out of this friggin cold place, and want to head south. I board surf and Kite, and want to do both. Where is a good place to go? I've heard about Cabarete, Aruba... where else?

Aloha!

Dominicain republic is ok, like you mentioned Cabarete...

Then there are a few other good places to the East and to the West of Kitebeach. 'Bozo Beach', located between Cabarete and Kitebeach is where the Kiteboarding World Championship (2001), World Cup (2002), and World Cup (2003) took place.

Encuentro Beach which is very popular with regular surfers in the mornings when the waves are best, is still a great place for wave riding in the afternoon when the winds pick up.

La Boca de Yasica is a great place with 100% flat waters and once you played around for a while you can kite back to Cabarete by going downwind with the trade winds for about 6km. However, only experienced kiters should venture on this one. There are a few other places that locals will be happy to point out to you.

that"s it right here..

If you are NONE AMERICAN, you can go to Cuba, it's super cheap and sick kiteboarding in the winter..

Varadero is for sure the place, there are spots for every wind direction, is fun for the family with lots of attractions to see and close to bigger cities like Matanzas (35 min driving), Habana (120 min)\wind is good to but i will avoid july and august always if you are looking for consistent wind. from january till may wind is stable most of the times with exception when storms comes and ten they die for hours or 1 day or maybe 2 depending on the size of the storm. the locals are cool, thy could teach you some hidden places for riding.

If you just want to kite the islands are the best. For my part I reallly enjoyed Mancora in Peru. It is near Equador so you can as well go hike some 6000 meters mountain! Food and lodging are good and the you have the choice to ride the super flat lagunas or the nice waves in the Pacific Ocean!

Last winter I went to Florianopolis Brazil... it was amazing... The best kitesurfing conditions in Florianopolis arrive during springtime (September, October and November). However, given the island’s unique topography andKitesurfing in Florianopolis exposure to the Atlantic tradewinds, it generally offers excellent kiting conditions all the way through March. Even during the rest of the year, Florianopolis generally provides suitable kiting conditions from mid-afternoon on, offering overall 250+ kiteable days per year.

Add the unmatched beauty of Florianopolis’ beaches, vibrant atmosphere, surf and other adventure sports options, incredible nightlife and dining, as well as Nexus’ unparalleled hospitality and customer service, and you’re talking about the ultimate Brazil kitesurfing holiday.

Check out some pictures...

hey,
concerning the trip to mancora!
there is also a bus going from lima to mancora. check out cruz del sur or oltursa, very safe and good service - quite comfortable and cheap, but takes a while.
in case you wanna fly, check out lan.com, fly from lima to piura, tumbes or talara. quite gnarly towns, so take a taxi or talk to the guys from the hotel you are planning to stay in. e.g. i know that samana chakra is offering such a pick-up service.
for trips to the different spots, talk to the guys from las olas, john from peru kite camp or the guys from samana chakra - they will deliver great service, all nice people!

in case there are more questions, i am happy to help ya!

I'm going to Aruba for a month this winter...plenty of wind sun and sand and it can get a few swells up to 4M so I'll be surfing bit as well...
Cheers
